Your first weekends

  • Balboa Park — A 1,200-acre park of gardens and museums in the middle of the city. You can walk the grounds for free, and each museum sets its own admission. Official site
  • Coronado Beach and the Hotel del Coronado — Morning walks and sunset strolls on a wide beach in front of the Victorian Hotel del Coronado, a National Historic Landmark since 1977.
  • Old Town San Diego State Historic Park — A walkable historic park of restored buildings and museums, with living-history programs about Rancho-period California. Official site
  • Living Coast Discovery Center — A nature and wildlife center at 1000 Gunpowder Point Dr. in Chula Vista, on San Diego Bay, with Turtle Lagoon, shark and ray exhibits, Raptor Row and trails through the refuge. Official site
  • Cabrillo National Monument — Tidepools, coastal trails, the Old Point Loma Lighthouse and wide views of San Diego Bay and the Pacific Ocean. Official site
  • The Flower Fields at Carlsbad Ranch — Fields of ranunculus above the Pacific in Carlsbad. The Flower Fields opens each spring, and its 2027 season begins March 1. Official site
